Egypt gets its first German submarine

For the first time ever, Egypt will receive on Monday a German-made "209/1400 Submarine" at the German city of Kiel to support the naval troops.

This comes within a deal made between the two nations for four submarines to help protect the Egyptian national security and its economic interests.

Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, commander of the forces, who left Cairo for Munich on Sunday at the head of a military delegation, will attend the event.

During his five-day visit, Rabie is scheduled to meet with several senior officials to boost cooperation ties between Egypt and Germany in fields of training and arming.

Egyptian technical teams earlier traveled to Germany for training on operating the new submarines.

Germany offers a great deal of aid to Egypt, according to Rabie, who added that the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi himself takes part in the negotiations aimed at developing the capabilities of the armed forces.
