Egypt govt mulls establishing new public transport company

Egypt Prime Minister Sherif Ismail discussed on Monday with the Governor of the Central Bank, Transport, Local Development ministers, and representatives of concerned authorities, the proposal to establish an internal transport company in accordance with President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi’s directives.

The meeting discussed considered proposals related to the suggested company, such as the application of a modern transportation system in terms of the method and scope of its work, the role of governorates and the private sector in its system, and how to harness modern technological tools in the management, operation and follow-up of the system of the new company.

Ismail stressed the importance of the proposed company achieving a qualitative leap for passenger transport services, to work in accordance with the highest standards of quality, and in a sound institutional manner, and to provide the public with better regular services and distinct through a network of transmission lines across the country.

The prime minister directed the formation of a committee headed by the Transport Minister with representatives from the Central Bank of Egypt and other ministries and government agencies and the Federation of Industries to conduct a study on all aspects related to the company, especially technical and financial, and come out with specific results in this regard to ensure the quality of service provided and the best way to manage them.
