Egypt to hand over Qadhafi regime figures

The Egyptian government will hand over to Libya figures from the regime of former leader Muammar Qadhafi once certain documents are filed in accordance with a bilateral transfer treaty, an Egyptian diplomatic source has told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

The source added that the transfers had been previously discussed with Libyan authorities.

Following demonstrations outside the Egyptian Embassy in Tripoli agitating for the return of the Qadhafi-era figures, the source said Cairo received a list of their names, issued travel bans against them, and froze their assets.

The demonstrators also requested to shut down the Al-Wadi and Watana satellite channels, which they claim are broadcast from Egypt and support remnants of the Qadhafi regime. Both channels have been critical of the revolutionary forces in Libya and describe Libya’s new rulers as agents of the West.

Al-Wadi channel says on its official Facebook page that it is broadcast by Nilesat, an Egyptian satellite broadcaster, but neither channel is listed on the official website’s list of channels.
