Egypt honors volunteers in international relief efforts on the Ukrainian-Polish borders

The Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity, Nevine al-Kabbaj, also Vice President of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, and head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Cairo Jerome Fontana on Sunday paid tribute to all volunteers participating in international relief efforts on the Ukrainian-Polish border.

Kabbaj and Fontana also honored the most active volunteers in the branches of the Egyptian Red Crescent, as well as the winners of the Ramadan cultural competition organized by the Egyptian Red Crescent Society.

This came during the celebration of the Egyptian Red Crescent, held in cooperation with the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Cairo on the International Day of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.

Several members of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society and some volunteers participated, sharing inspiring stories about helping others and the difference they make.

Wherever there is a crisis, volunteers from the Red Crescent or the Red Cross are sure to be found, Kabbaj said, praising their efforts in providing supplies to those in need without any discrimination, putting suffering above all other considerations.

She added that during the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, the Egyptian Red Crescent Society was the first to set foot on the vast Ukrainian borders, and its supplies and support would reach all those affected by that crisis.

The association received thousands of requests for help.

This resulted in responding to all calls to provide the required psychological support, receive returnees through Egyptian airports, and communicate with Ukrainian and Russian nationals residing in some Egyptian governorates.

Two specialized teams for international relief, led by the Executive Director of the Society were equipped to transfer those efforts to the crisis arena, specifically the Ukrainian-Polish and Romanian borders.

This was accompanied through coordinating with official Egyptian efforts represented by the Cabinet and the Foreign Ministry, as well as following-up with the office of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in the Middle East and Europe, in addition to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Cairo to assist in the evacuation process or deal with distress calls.
