The head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, Amr al-Sharkawy, and the Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Juan Carlos Salazar on Tuesday signed a technical support agreement to restructure and redesign Egypt’s airspace.
This came during the reception of the Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation, Mohamed Abbas Helmy, with Salazar and his accompanying delegation, at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital – in conjunction with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Egypt hosting the regional office of the ICAO.
The agreement aims to improve all areas of safety in the civil aviation facility, and provide effective solutions for redesigning Egyptian airspace and planning air routes which enhances the reduction of flight time, achieves flexibility in Egyptian airspace more efficiently, and reduces the percentage of carbon emissions.
The agreement also aims to accommodate the largest number of aircraft and increase air traffic, in line with the increasing demand for operation.
It seeks to reach the highest levels of air safety and security, in accordance with international principles and standards for civil aviation.
Helmy stressed the importance of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority benefiting from consultants of ICAO regarding discussions on providing the best ways to support Egyptian air transport, praising the role that the organization plays to ensure the security and safety of travelers and global air traffic.
While Salazar expressed his happiness at visiting Egypt, coinciding with the celebration of 70 years of effective partnership and distinguished bilateral relations, and praising the warm reception and good hospitality he was greeted with.
The cooperation agreement is an important opportunity that supports the prospects for distinguished cooperation and partnership through the Civil Aviation Authority, Salazar explained, that supports the competitive capabilities of Egyptian airspace.
