The head of the railway equipment factory SEMAF, Ahmed Shaker, said that the Egyptian state has begun to enter an era of localizing subway and train coach industries through the SEMAF factory, adding that work has begun with the formation of components for the vehicles.
During a phone interview with Ahmed Moussa’s TV show “Ala Massoulity” (By My Responsibility) on Sunday, Shaker explained that the components of the metro coaches are 100 percent assembled in Egypt.
The contract concluded with the South Korean company Hyundai includes 80 metro coaches, representing 10 trains, he added.
Production lines in this direction have careful scientific calculations according to the timings set for the delivery of trains, he said, stressing that the manufacture of 10 trains in Egypt contributes to the settlement of the railway industry in the country.
Shaker noted that the SEMAF factory has modern technology, pointing out that designs and equipment are being developed in the factory and the infrastructure for the industrial origin is being established in order to accommodate the production capacity.
SEMAF manufactures all types of railway vehicles of all kinds, he explained, adding that the factory is also working on manufacturing a train for transporting grain from ports to silos.
Shaker added that the transportation of goods by trains is of great importance represented in saved time and money due to its speed in transportation.
Work is also underway to manufacture goods transport vehicles, he said.
