The Ministry of Transport signed an agreement between Egypt and Italy to transport goods by road-towed vehicles (semi-trailers and semi-trailers) using roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) cargo ship services.
Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir said that the maritime transport line will enable local exporters to export agricultural produce from Egypt to Europe with the aim of increasing exports between Egypt and Italy.
The minister added that the project deal was first approved in 2019, and customs duties were reduced from $26,000 to $3,000.
A ship capable of transporting crops is now available, he said.
In addition, the European Union has allocated a grant for a partnership between Egyptian and Italian customs, and all obstacles to road transport have been resolved.
Ro-Ro transport is an abbreviation for “roll-on” and “roll-off”, a method used to transport goods between countries by sea.
The products are loaded onto trucks on a sea line and transported by ferries called “roll-on/roll-off ships”.
