Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced on Wednesday the launch of the second phase of the Sinai development plan, during his inspection tour for the headquarters of the 101st Battalion in North Sinai.
The state had to intervene immediately to eliminate terrorism and prepare the North Sinai Governorate to implement the strategic plan, he explained.
“The target volume of development and projects is estimated at LE363 billion in the second phase of Sinai’s development over the next five years,” he added.
The people of North Sinai suffered enough under brutal terrorism, he said, noting that the strategic decision taken by the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi aims to develop Sinai alongside fighting off terrorism.
Egypt implemented the first phase of the economic development plan for Sinai, from 2014-2023. During the past ten years, it spent more than LE750 billion on development projects in Sinai.
Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala al-Saeed said that the total government investments in the 23/2024 plan for the development of North Sinai Governorate amount to about LE6.5 billion.
