Israeli media reports revealed on Monday that Egypt plans to modernize its fleet of heavy Chinook helicopters at a cost of about half a billion dollars.
The Israeli news website “nziv”, which specializes in security and military affairs, said that the US Army concluded a contract with Boeing to produce 12 new CH-47F Chinook aircraft for the Egyptian Air Force.
According to a statement on Boeing’s website, through the deal worth US$426 million, Egypt will replace its fleet of CH-47D aircraft with the modern F model, benefiting from the new highly advanced multi-mission aircraft.
“The F-model aircraft will enhance Egypt’s Chinook capabilities and help effectively accomplish its heavy-lift objectives,” said vice president and H-47 program manager Ken Eland.
“Boeing’s partnership with the Egyptian Air Force remains strong as we continue to work together to modernize their fleet.”
The Israeli website explained that the CH-47F is an advanced multi-role helicopter designed for the US Army and international defense forces, and features a fully integrated digital cockpit management system, cockpit avionics, and advanced cargo handling capabilities.
“Boeing is committed to supporting the defense modernization mission of the Egyptian armed forces and ensuring the best capability for Egypt’s national defense and security,” added vice president of Boeing International Business Development Vince Logsdon.
