Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a decision to open a general consulate of Egypt in Wadi Halfa, Sudan.
Article One of the decision states that a general consulate of the Arab Republic of Egypt shall be established in Wadi Halfa, in the Republic of Sudan.
Article Two of the decision states that the relevant authorities shall implement this decision, and any provisions that contradict this decision are hereby annulled.
Article Three of the decision states that this decision shall be published in the official gazette, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs shall implement it.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry issued back in October assured that Egypt emphasizes its keenness on the security, stability, and unity of neighboring Sudan, land and people, and stresses that it will spare no effort to provide all means of support to its brothers in Sudan to confront the severe damage resulting from this heinous war.
Earlier in July Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for joint efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution to the Sudanese crisis – one which meets all the desires of its people.
In statements at the time, Sisi said: “We are keen on coordination and cooperation with all regional and international partners to resolve the Sudanese crisis.”
Outbreak of war
Clashes broke out on April 2023 between the Rapid Support Forces and the army in Marawi and Khartoum, and quickly spread to other parts of Sudan.
As a result of the conflict, thousands were killed and tens of thousands injured.
The warring parties held a series of consultations in Jeddah in 2023, while a ceasefire between the army and RSF was repeatedly announced, yet none of the agreements reached were fully implemented.
