Egypt pound weakens to fresh 3-1/2 year low

The Egyptian pound traded as low as 5.7360 to the dollar on Tuesday, a new three and a half year low, with analysts saying the reason may be that the central bank is stepping up purchases of foreign currency.

"In our opinion we think that the central bank is actively purchasing foreign currency and trying to weaken the pound," said a strategist at BNP Paribas on condition of anonymity.
