Egyptian authorities have ruled to prevent minors under the age of 18 from traveling abroad alone, starting January 1, 2024, without their relatives.
In the event that they travel alone, they must obtain prior permission from the Communications Department of the General Administration of Passports, Immigration, and Nationality.
The authorities ordered the EgyptAir Holding Company and other concerned authorities to implement the decision.
Sports teams that have obtained a decision from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (with the eagle stamp of Egypt), they can travel without obtaining prior permission from the Communications Department.
Sports teams that carry a letter from their affiliated game federation are allowed to obtain prior permission from the Communications Department.
The decision banning the travel of minors revealed the conditions for travel under the age of 18, in addition to General Instructions #1 of 1997 regarding the organization of work at air, sea, and land ports, and subsequent instructions regarding Egyptians traveling abroad, includes the following:
- Not allowing a minor under the age of 18 to travel outside the country to any destination without a guardian.
- If a minor travels alone, they must obtain permission from the Communications Department of the General Administration of Passports, Immigration and Nationality.
- To obtain the permission, the person concerned must be present, accompanied by their guardian, at the Communication Department and take the guardian’s acknowledgment of approval for the minor’s travel alone.
- The Communications Department must examine visas and investigate the seriousness of the justifications for minor travel following checking the status of the applicant in the Lists, and Criminal Investigation Departments in accordance with the established mechanism for issuing travel permits, as part of the state’s efforts in combating illegal immigration and human trafficking.
