The Egyptian Foreign Ministry affirmed Egypt’s adherence to the strict rules of the political settlement to the Palestinian issue.
US President Donald Trump presented a proposal on Saturday to clear out Gaza, and called on Egypt and Jordan to receive Palestinians from the strip in order to bring peace to the Middle East.
Responding in a statement on Sunday, Egypt stressed that Palestine remains the central issue in the Middle East, and that the delay in settling it, ending the occupation, and returning the usurped rights of the Palestinian people will bring further instability in the region.
“The ministry expresses Egypt’s continued support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land and their adherence to their legitimate rights in their land and homeland, and to the principles of international law and international humanitarian law,” the statement added.
Egypt stressed its rejection to any infringement of these inalienable rights, whether through settlement or annexation of land, or by evacuating that land of its owners through displacement or encouraging the transfer or uprooting of Palestinians from their land – temporarily or long-term.
This, the statement said, threatens stability and portends further extension of the conflict to the region, and undermines the chances of peace and coexistence among its peoples.
The ministry called on the international community to work to begin the actual implementation of the two-state solution, including the embodiment of the Palestinian state on its entire national territory and within the context of the unity of Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the lines of June 4, 1967.
