The Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed announced that 100,800 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine have arrived at the Cairo International Airport, provided by the Polish government.
The minister said in a statement that this comes within the state’s plan to diversify and expand the provision of coronavirus vaccines to citizens to preserve its gains in addressing the pandemic.
All AstraZeneca vaccine shipments that were received will be distributed to the 1,100 vaccination centers distributed across Egypt.
The ministry again appealed to citizens to register on the ministry’s website to receive coronavirus vaccines, stressing that the state spares no effort in providing vaccinations free of charge.
Poland had sent excess doses to countries such as Australia, Spain, Norway, Ukraine and Taiwan.
“The donation of vaccines to Egypt is an expression of solidarity with an important Polish partner in North Africa,” the Polish Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday on Twitter.
About 60 percent of Polish people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to figures from the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The demand for vaccination has fallen significantly compared to its record levels in June.
