Israeli media revealed that Israel had renewed its request for Egypt to take in displaced Gaza Strip refugees, but Cairo harshly turned down the idea.
Israel’s media strongly criticized Egypt’s rejection on Monday.
The Israeli news website Srugim explained that Egypt rejected Israel’s request to settle tens of thousands of Gaza residents in Egyptian territory for a limited period with the aim of eliminating the battalions of armed organizations within the Gaza Strip.
Israel had made it clear that this would be for a “very limited period” in order to finally eliminate the remaining armed organizations in the Strip, without endangering civilians.
Egypt, according to the Hebrew website, expressed firm opposition and made it clear to the Israelis that the matter is “unacceptable”.
Egypt’s ‘red line’
The Chairman of the Egyptian State Information Service (SIS), Diaa Rashwan, back in February explained that the displacement of Palestinians represents the “certain liquidation of the Palestinian cause, and a direct threat to Egyptian sovereignty and national security.”
“This position has been made clear by all Egyptians that this is a red line and that Cairo has the means to deal with it immediately and effectively,” Rashwan stressed.
“Egypt, with its declared and frank position, cannot take any measures or movements on its territory that conflict with it (its opposition to displacement), and give the impression, falsely promoted by some, that it is participating in the crime of displacement called for by some Israeli parties.”
