Egypt takes advantage of gas crisis in Europe to promote tourism

“If you’ve ever dreamed of living in a warm paradise by the sea, make that fantasy a reality with work from distance in Egypt.”

That’s the message Egypt is promoting as part of its Egypt winter tourism initiative, following in the wake of Russia announcing it would be cutting off gas to EU countries.

Egypt thereby put forward a new initiative that supports tourism in Egypt in the winter, under the title “Your office in a warm paradise on the sea.”

The initiative aims to attract Europeans to work in the winter season from Egypt, especially as most of them are still working from home after the coronavirus crisis. Due to Russian gas outage, it is difficult to heat European homes this year.

The initiative promotes accommodation throughout winter to work remotely from tourist resorts on the shores of the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, taking advantage of Egypt’s warm weather in these months compared to Europe.

Visitors will enjoy a low cost for long-term accommodation, and quiet work on the sea under sunlight divine heating.

The initiative will help activate the entire tourism sector, including restaurants and cafes, tourist attractions of all kinds, and markets, throughout the long-term residence of tourists.

Under the initiative, several different government agencies, including the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Federation of Chambers of Tourism, and the Ministry of Foreign Ministry will cooperate to grant long-term visas for tourists.

According to a statement by the Secretary General of the Federation of Chambers of Tourism Alaa Ezz, the initiative will be supported by the EU in accordance with the EBSOMED (Enhancing Business Support Organisations) project which aims to support business organizations.

It will also see support from the Med Pearls project to support slow tourism according to the ENI CBC Med program for cross-border cooperation.
