Egypt to apply minimum accommodation fee in hotels starting November 1st

Egypt will start applying a minimum accommodation fee in hotel establishments starting November 1, the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry announced in a statement on Sunday.

The step comes as part of efforts to raise the quality of Egypt’s tourist services .

According to this decision, the minimum fee for accommodation service (of any kind) per person per night in five-star hotel establishments is US$40 or its equivalent, and $28 or its equivalent in four-star hotels.

The decision comes in parallel with procedures for re-evaluating hotel establishments in accordance with the new classification standards “Hospitality Criteria”, developed jointly with the World Tourism Organization bring the classification of Egyptian hotels to the level of its international counterparts.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has completed the re-evaluation of all hotel facilities located in the governorates of South Sinai and the Red Sea that have a health safety certificate for operation, in accordance with the new classification standards.

The ministry added it is currently evaluating floating hotel facilities in the governorates of Luxor and Aswan, and will continue the process in the rest of the governorates.
