Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry announced that Egypt intends to organize a meeting to include Germany, France, Egypt and Jordan with the aim of further advancing peace talk efforts.
Shoukry statements came during a joint press conference held on Saturday with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki after a consultative meeting in Cairo that discussed the resumption of Middle East peace talks.
Al-Masry Al-Youm learned that the press conference was followed by a business lunch in which Shoukry hosted the two foreign ministers with the participation of the Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
The Palestinian issue is the central Arab issue, Shoukry assured, and comes at the top of Egypt’s foreign policy priorities.
He stressed that peace in the Middle East can never be fully achieved until the Palestinian people obtain their full legitimate rights, establishing their state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He added that the international community should urge Israel to stop confiscating land in occupied Palestinian territories.
Saturday’s talks revealed a unanimous consensus, he said, which Cairo seeks to shape into practical steps during the coming period through coordination with various countries regionally and internationally.
