Egypt to inaugurate BRT project during 1st half of 2023: Sources

Transport Ministry sources in Egypt announced Saturday that the Bus Rapid Transist (BRT) system on the Ring Road will be inaugurated during the first half of 2023.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inspected on Saturday the project’s al-Salam station, which is being implemented within the political leadership’s directives to expand the implementation of green, sustainable and environment-friendly transportation networks.

He was also briefed on the progress of work in the second phase of the Ring Road development project.

Raising the standards for road development

The BRT project represents a new standard of development the government seeks across its various projects as it contributes to facilitating the movement of citizens in an orderly manner.

The Prime Minister also listened to an explanation from the Minister of Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, during which he reviewed the executive position of the fast frequency bus project.

The minister said that the project aims to eliminate random parking spots located on the ring road, whether on the track, ramps, or private homes on the road.

The Prime Minister also listened to an explanation from Transport Minister, Kamel al-Wazir, during which he reviewed the executive position of the BRT project.

Wazir explained that the BRT stations will total 47, including 13 overhead stations, 26 underground stations, and eight atypical stations, with spaces for microbus stops and parking below the Ring Road – implemented in coordination between the Transport Ministry and the governorates.

The Project Manager Mahmoud al-Sheikh made a presentation on the implementation status of the stations and their interface models, and the sites designated for charging buses, which include: the bus station in the al-Mosheer axis and the link between it and the Administrative Capital’s Monorail.

The road will be expanded to six lanes for private cars, then an internal lane designated for BRT buses, bringing the total to seven lanes in all directions, except for the Mounib Bridge, which will total eight lanes in all directions.
