Egypt welcomed the UN Security Council’s adoption of a resolution demanding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during the month of Ramadan, the first since beginning of the crisis and following the Security Council’s repeated inability to reach a resolution demanding a permanent ceasefire.
An Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement said that the issuance of this decision represents an important and necessary first step to stopping the violence, putting an end to Palestinian civilian casualties, and providing the opportunity for humanitarian aid to enter the strip.
The resolution comes after more than five months of Israeli military operations that caused severe harm to civilians in the Gaza Strip, it added.
Egypt called for the immediate implementation of the ceasefire, in order to open the way for it to handle all aspects of the crisis, and assured that it will continue its tireless efforts with international and regional parties in order to swiftly contain the Gaza Strip crisis.
