Egyptian actress Salma Abu-Deif honored in Women in Cinema at Cannes

Egyptian star Salma Abu-Deif received a special honor from the Women in Cinema initiative, held on the sidelines of the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

The Red Sea Film Festival and Vanity Fair-Europe magazine honored six unique women who have redefined what is possible for future female generations, and charted promising horizons for inspiring female talent around the world.

Among the honorees are Abu-Deif, screenwriter and director Ramata Tulay Si, Saudi actress Adwa Fahd, Saudi actress and singer Aseel Omran, Indian actress Kiara Advani, and Thai star Sarocha Chankimha.

During the Cannes Film Festival, Abu-Deif also participated in a special symposium on the Women in Cinema topic.

She spoke about the challenges women face in cinema and the opportunities available to them in the industry.

The Egyptian actress talked about her latest experience, which was the series “Except for Divorce,” which achieved the highest viewership during its broadcast in Ramadan 2024.
