Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Ashraf Hamdy said cases that were brought against a member of Hezbollah who escaped from an Egyptian prison during the 25 January revolution still stand.
On 3 February 2011, Egypt said Samy Shehab, a member of Hezbollah who was charged with planning attacks in Egypt, had escaped from prison.
In April 2011, Shehab was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
In an interview with Lebanese politician Amin Gemayel on Tuesday which was posted on Lebanon News, Hamdy said the verdicts against Shehab have not been dropped.
The Egyptian ambassador, however, pointed out that Egypt has a new regime that is open to dialogue on Lebanese and regional issues.
Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah had said Shehab is a member of a cell that belongs to his group which was responsible for smuggling weapons from Egypt to Gaza.
Hundreds of prisoners escaped during the 25 January revolution when mass protests were staged to call for the ouster of ex-President Hosni Mubarak.
