Egyptian authorities detain former housing minister for questioning

Egyptian authorities on Wednesday detained former Minister of Housing Mohamed Ibrahim Suleiman, a security source said.

Suleiman was summoned for interrogation on charges that he sold millions of feddans of state-owned land to his family members and businessmen at prices much lower than the land's value.

When he did not turn up for the investigation, the public funds prosecution issued an arrest order, the source said. Suleiman was arrested at his New Cairo villa early Wednesday morning without any resistance.

He is scheduled for questioning, according to the source.
