Egyptian Border Guard forces in the Great Sand Sea area, south of Siwa Oasis, in the west of the country, thwarted the smuggling of a large shipment of weapons, ammunition and narcotics.
The military spokesperson for the Armed Forces, Gharib Abdel-Hafez, said in Monday statement that authorities seized two four-wheel drive vehicles without license plates used by terrorists for infiltration and smuggling.
They also seized seven sniper rifles (FN), two Kalashnikov submachine gun, 13 automatic rifles, five Beretta rifle, RPG, 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, two 14.5 machine gun, eight automatic magazines, seven FN sniper magazines, and two RPG warheads, alongside 1,162 rounds of different ammunition, a satellite phone and one million narcotic tablets were recovered.
Legal measures were taken against the smugglers.
Abdel-Hafez said that the Border Guard is continuing its intensive efforts against outlaws, and imposing security control on all strategic directions of the state to secure Egypt’s borders, in conjunction with the intensification of tightening procedures and control over all the state’s border crossings and ports.
