On Wednesday, the Egyptian Cabinet announced that the current anti-coronavirus precautionary measures and general restrictions will now extend until the end of May.
The restrictions, which were set to expire on Saturday, includes a mandatory, 9 pm closing time for shops, malls, restaurants, cafes, and movie theaters.
The decision to extend the restrictions was made by the government’s Higher Committee for the Management of the Coronavirus Crisis, and was announced by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly during the weekly Cabinet meeting.
The Cabinet stated that the extension excludes the closing of parks and public beaches, which will reopen to the public after Saturday and remain open as long as precautionary measures are enforced and followed.
These measures have been in effect since May 6.
The number of daily coronavirus infections in Egypt has hovered above 1,100 for some time now, while the daily death count still hold above 50.
