Egypt’s Farida Osman on Saturday won the silver bronze medal for the women’s 50m butterfly at the 2019 FINA World Aquatics Championships held in Gwangju, South Korea.
Osman finished in the third place with a time of 25.47, while Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom won the gold with a 25.02 and the Netherlands’ Ranomi Kromowidjojo won the silver medal with 25.35.
Osman suffered health issues such as shortness of breath after qualifying for the final and was admitted to hospital, remaining there until this morning.
The head of the mission apologized for Osman missing the 50m freestyle, which had been scheduled for early morning.
This is the fourth time in a row that Osman took part in the final at World Championships.
Osman, an Egyptian competitive butterfly and freestyle swimmer who has broken records and won gold medals across a number of African Games in the 50m and 100m butterfly swimming competitions for the last several years, and is considered to be the fastest female swimmer in Egypt and Africa.
The 24-year-old athlete was named the Best African Female Athlete at the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Awards 2017 in Prague.
On June 3, Osman won the silver medal of the women’s 50m butterfly of the FINA Champions Swim Series, held in Indianapolis, the United States. Osman finished in second place. She had also finished second in the FCS edition in Budapest with a time of 25.95.
