Egyptian film ‘ Cologne – My Father’s Scent’ wins 5 awards at Venice Film Festival

The Egyptian film “Cologne – My Father’s Scent” starring Ahmed Malek and Kamel al-Basha, and produced by Mohamed Hefzy, has won five awards at the Venice International Film Festival.

The film was selected as a project in progress in the Final Cut program held on the sidelines of the Venice Film Festival in September 2024, and is directed by Mohamed Siam.

Egyptian director Mourad Mostafa’s film “Aisha Can’t Fly Away Anymore” also won the Final Cut Award at the Venice International Film Festival, and is the first feature film by the award-winning director.

This movie tells the story of Aisha, an African immigrant in her twenties living in Cairo. It deals with her journey among African immigrants, and the tensions she faces in her field of work in healthcare.

The film stars Poliana Simon, Ziad Zaza, Emad Ghoneim, and Mamdouh Saleh, and is currently in the post-production stage, after winning more than one production grant from international festivals.
