Egyptian Finance Minister and Chairman of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Authority, Mohamed Maait, reviewed a report on the results of the visit by a delegation from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to the branch of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance in Ismailia, the Ismailia Medical Complex, and the Family Medicine Center in al-Shuhada.
Maait on Saturday ordered continuous work with international development partners to develop Egypt’s model of comprehensive health coverage, to ensure the sustainability of the efficiency of health management, financing, and services provided to citizens.
The minister expressed his appreciation for international support towards Egypt’s efforts to reform health insurance by supporting the comprehensive health insurance system, in accordance with the latest international standards.
These include the role of the AFD, the World Bank, and Japan’s JICA, which showcased positive cooperation in advancing efforts to implement comprehensive health insurance, he said.
“We aim for a greater role for the private medical sector to be a major partner in providing services and managing the comprehensive health insurance system, through the promising and attractive competitive opportunities that this advanced system will provide to private medical institutions with the public ones,” the minister explained.
Maait added, “The state does not have a monopoly on providing health services, but rather the Egyptian experience is based on the right of the citizen and their family to choose a place to receive treatment and comprehensive and integrated health care, whether in the public or private sectors, or in other accredited health institutions, with the aim of raising citizen satisfaction rates.”
The Assistant Finance Minister and Executive Director of Comprehensive Health Insurance, Mai Farid, explained that the visit of the French delegation was coordinated to inform them about developments in the implementation of the system’s first phase.
