Egyptian governorates are in a state of alert in preparation for tomorrow’s Eid al-Fitr holiday, which will be celebrated for the first time under coronavirus lockdown.
The authorities have stressed the need to stay at homes during all three days of the holiday, and not to compromise the precautionary measures announced to counter the coronavirus.
Luxor Governor Mostafa Alham said that the degree of readiness has been raised across the governorate, in coordination with the Security Directorate, to implement the decisions issued by the Cabinet regarding procedures that will be applied during the holiday.
He explained that these measures include stopping all public mass transportation and preventing gatherings, and dealing with any violations in a decisive manner by taking all legal measures against violators.
Meanwhile, the streets of the North Sinai Governorate, including the squares of al-Arish city, were crowded due to citizens going out to shop to prepare for Eid, buying Kahk (special Eid cookies), candy, cakes, clothes, shoes and other items.
North Sinai families will perform Eid prayers this year at home due to measures taken to confront the coronavirus.
In Beheira governorate, local agencies carried out inspection campaigns on shops, markets and bakeries to monitor the supplies during the period of preparation for Eid al-Fitr.
Beheira Governor Hisham Amna spoke of the intensification of campaigns on markets and shops to monitor the quality of goods offered to citizens, and of the authorities’ intent to arrest violators and prevent monopolistic practices.
In Minya, Governor Osama al-Qadi instructed local authorities to carry out cleaning, spraying, disinfection, sterilization and maintenance of lamp poles.
In Beni Suef, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Mohamed Youssef, said that the maximum level of preparedness in hospitals and all parts of the health system has been raised. Inspection of health units and hospitals has been intensified and authorities have ensured that there is an adequate amount of medicines and medical supplies.
In Monufiya, Governor Ibrahim Ahmed issued directives to intensify hygiene campaigns to remove accumulations of garbage from streets and public squares.
He also instructed local authorities to be present on the ground during the days of Eid al-Fitr to ensure the continued implementation of the precautionary and preventive measures taken by the government to confront the emerging coronavirus.
In Sharqia, Governor Mamdouh Ghorab announced the distribution of 2,000 pieces of clothing provided by the Orman Association in cooperation with the Social Solidarity Directorate to the most needy families.
