Egyptian hospital closed after 5-year-old child’s death

The Ministry of Health and Population has announced the closure of Tabarak Hospital in the Fifth Settlement, New Cairo,pending the completion of investigations into the death of a 5-year-old child.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that upon receiving a complaint alleging the death of a 5-year-old child due to suspected medical negligence by the attending physician and improper medical treatment of the case, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, immediately ordered the formation of a committee from the Central Administration of Non-Governmental Treatment Facilities and Licenses, and private treatment in Cairo, in cooperation with the Egyptian Drug Authority, to inspect the hospital and review how the case was handled and the treatment plan for the child.

Hisham Zaki, head of the Central Administration of Non-Governmental Treatment Facilities and Licenses, indicated that the preliminary investigations of the formed committee revealed a failure to deal with the child’s case according to the correct medical protocol followed in such cases.

Representatives of the Egyptian Drug Authority also took samples of the same drugs that the child had taken for analysis and verification, confirming the issuance of an immediate decision to close the aforementioned hospital pending the completion of the investigations.

Patients in the hospital are being transferred to Ministry of Health hospitals to ensure their health and safety.
