Egyptian immigrant accused of murdering daughters to appeal life prison sentence

The lawyer for Yaser Said, the Egyptian convicted of killing his two daughters in the US, has stated that he will appeal the life sentence against his client.

A US court sentenced Saeed to life in prison, for the murder of his two daughters.

His lawyer, Brad Lawler, confirmed to CNN that he plans to appeal the ruling.

“We are disappointed with the ruling, but we accept it,” Lawler said.

The case has no witnesses, no physical evidence of any kind, no surveillance videos, and no confession by the defendant who insisted on his innocence of the crime, he added.

The FBI quickly described the incident as an “honor killing”, simply because the accused was a Muslim man, a description that the Irving Police and the FBI later retracted, according to Saeed’s lawyer, who described the classification of the case as “racist” because the accused was a Muslim man.

“There is nothing honorable about what Yasser Saeed did on January 1, 2008. The Dallas County has made it clear to Mr. Saeed that there is no excuse for killing another human being. Now he has to spend the rest of his days locked up in a cell,” Dallas Attorney General John Creuzot, said.

Saeed killed his two teenage daughters in 2008 in Texas, but he managed to escape and remained on the run for 12 years, until he was arrested in 2020, and was convicted on August 9 of their murder and sentenced to life in prison.

The perpetrator, Yasser Abdel Fattah Saeed, 65, committed an “honor crime”, as he killed his two daughters: Amina, 18, and Sarah, 17.

Al Arabiya.net previously wrote a report about him when he was arrested in August 2020 after the FBI classified him as one of the ten most wanted men, for killing his two daughters on the last night of 2008, by shooting them.

The two sisters were found murdered in a taxi near a hotel in Dallas on New Year’s Eve. Sarah stayed alive for a while and called the emergency services and reported that her father had shot her and that she was dying, but she died with her sister before the police arrived.

Saeed wrote a letter to the judge before the trial in which he said he was not satisfied with his two daughters’ “dating” of two men, and denied killing them. However, the court convicted him of premeditated murder and sentenced him to prison while the prosecution did not request the death penalty.
