Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled al-Anany on Friday met with officials in Berlin to talk ways to enhance and revitalize the inbound tourism movement from the German market during the coming period, in addition to the impact of coronavirus crisis and the Russian-Ukrainian war on German air traffic to Egypt.
Anany arrived in the German capital on Thursday after a visit to the British capital, London, during which he held talks with the officials of the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) to for more tourist movement.
He began his visit by holding two lengthy meetings at the headquarters of the Egyptian Embassy in Berlin, with the President of the Federal Association of German Airlines, Michael Engel, the CEO of the FTI Group, one of the largest German tour operators dealing with the Egyptian tourist destination, Ralph Schiller, the Head of International Markets at the FTI Group Maya Ammar and the President of the Quality Travel Alliance (QTA), Europe’s largest travel and tourism alliance, Thomas Bösl.
Anany on Friday also met with President of the German Travel Association (DRV) Norbert Fiebig at the Egyptian Embassy in Berlin.
And he held a separate meeting with the Chairman of the Tourism Committee in the German Bundestag Jana Schimke, in the presence of Egypt’s ambassador to Germany Khaled Galal.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in the tourism situation in Egypt in general, and a review of the tourist movement coming from Germany as the German market is one of the largest tourist markets exporting tourism to Egypt.
The talks touched on the current status of tourist reservations to Egypt from the German market and the future plans for operation during the coming period, especially in light of Germany easing travel restrictions.
The state’s efforts to attract more tourist traffic from various tourist markets were also reviewed, including the extension of the flight stimulus program and the application of the reduction in landing fees, harboring and ground services provided at Egyptian airports in the tourist governorates until October 31.
During the meeting, Anany noted the opening of the Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada museums, which provide an opportunity for tourists to learn about ancient Egyptian civilization,, in addition to granting a 50 percent discount on visiting museums and open archaeological sites in some Upper Egypt governorates within months of June, July and August.
