The French prosecutor’s office announced on Saturday that Egyptian Olympic wrestler Mohamed Ibrahim Kishto, who was arrested in Paris on sexual harassment charges, has been released and all charges against him have been dropped, according to AFP.
The Paris prosecutor’s office stated in a press release that the detention order for the 26-year-old Olympic wrestler was “lifted and all proceedings terminated without further measures because the crime was not serious enough.”
The public prosecutor’s office told AFP: “We confirm the lifting of the precautionary custody today, as well as the closure of the investigation without further action due to insufficient evidence.”
The athlete was transferred from the police station to Charles de Gaulle Airport to return to Cairo on Saturday.
The Egyptian Olympic Committee stated in a statement on Saturday that the investigation into the sexual harassment allegations against Kishto had been closed, noting that the wrestler’s release came after reviewing surveillance footage of the alleged incident.
