Egyptian policeman reportedly shot at border

An Egyptian policeman was injured Wednesday night near the border with Israel after he was shot in unknown circumstances, said medical sources at Arish Public Hospital.

Al-Dostour, an independent newspaper, reported that authorities could not interrogate the policeman because he is in critical condition. According to Al-Dostour, Arish hospital received the 21-year-old policeman, Saeed Mabrouk, who was shot in his left side while guarding the border between Egypt and Israel.

The same sources added that Mabrouk remains in critical condition at the hospital.

For years, illegal activity has been active near the border, and smugglers, migrants and Egyptian officers alike have been killed or wounded in scuffles.
