An Egyptian soldier was killed and another was injured on Monday due to gunfire by Israeli forces on the border with the city of Rafah.
The military spokesperson for the Egyptian Armed Forces announced the opening of an investigation into the incident.
The Israeli army confirmed that there were no injuries or deaths among its own forces.
The Israeli army said in a statement that a “shooting incident” is under investigation, and that contact is taking place with the Egyptian side in this regard.
Preliminary Egyptian investigations indicated that the soldier fell victim to gunfire between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian fighters, according to statements made by an “informed” security source to the AlQahera News channel.
Statements made by a high-ranking source to the same channel said that Egypt has warned against harming any of its forces charged with protecting the Egyptian border with the Gaza Strip
