An informed Egyptian government source has revealed that the state’s measures to close shops at nine pm has contributed to daily fuel savings estimated at LE33-40 million.
This translates to total savings of between LE 66 and LE 80 million in just the first two days, the source said, with the potential to reach approximately LE 120 million when calculated based on global energy prices.
The source explained that the total expected savings in fuel consumption during April could range between LE 990 million and LE 1.2 billion, according to local prices, and could reach approximately LE 1.8 billion if calculated based on actual costs or global prices.
This reflects the doubly positive economic and environmental impact of the conservation measures, he said.
Government ministry headquarters on Sunday also began implementing the Prime Minister’s decision to work remotely on every Sunday during April, marking the first day of the decision’s official implementation.
Some employees with essential duties requiring their presence at the ministries were exempted.
According to several families, the past two weeks have witnessed a significant increase in home internet usage, especially when work requires downloading or uploading large files or images.
Based on the prices announced by the companies, the minimum monthly internet spending for a family (140 GB package) has reached LE 240, while spending for families with average usage (400-600 GB) exceeds LE 650.
