Egypt’s defense industry launches high-security VIP vehicle and global-standard Minesweeper

In a move reflecting Egypt’s escalating position as an emerging defense industrial power, the local defense sector showcased its latest achievements at the EDEX 2025 Defense and Security Exhibition.

Among the highlights was the launch of the “VIP Armored Vehicle”, specifically designed to protect high-profile individuals, while an Egyptian-made minesweeper—which impressed international delegations—was also displayed and is currently entering the export market.

“VIP Armored Vehicle”: Local comprehensive protection

Defense sources described the new armored car as the “surprise of EDEX 2025,” noting that it represents a qualitative leap in the local manufacturing of armored vehicles.

The Chairman of the Marathon Company, Mohamed al-Kalyoubi, stated that the armored vehicle is designed to meet the highest security requirements for dignitaries.

It is equipped with the latest shielding and smart technologies, including internal and external monitoring screens that provide “full situational awareness” of the surrounding environment, ensuring comprehensive protection even in the most dangerous circumstances.

He added that the vehicle is being displayed for the first time at the pavilion of the Amston International Group, a leader in defense and security solutions.

Amston’s exhibit featured a comprehensive suite of military products, including armored vehicles, drones, ammunition, weapons, armored loaders, minesweepers, and armed launches.

Local Minesweeper garners attention

Al-Kalyoubi announced that the ST100 Minesweeper, which was entirely designed and manufactured in Egypt, has already begun export operations abroad.

This reflects the maturity of the national defense industry, and serves as an international testament to its quality and ability to meet stringent global standards for sensitive equipment.

He noted that the exhibition also featured the debut of other new products, including the Armored Loader, the FIB Armored Vehicle, and an Armed Launch capable of operating in both rivers and seas.

EDEX 2025: Egypt’s global defense platform

The EDEX exhibition, held biennially in Cairo since its debut in December 2018, is one of the most prominent defense forums in the region.

This year’s exhibition is organized by the Armed Forces Armament Authority in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Military Production, and the Arab Organization for Industrialization, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, which grants it exceptional strategic and political weight.

The exhibition brings together leading global and local companies specialized in the fields of defense and security, including air and coastal defense systems, shipbuilding, cybersecurity, missiles, unmanned vehicles, satellite communications, rescue systems, surveillance, tactical equipment, and training and simulation technologies.

This makes it an exclusive window into the latest global advancements in defense technology.
