Egyptian non-oil exports to the European Union witnessed a significant growth during the first eight months of 2021, reaching 4.1 billion euros compared to 2.9 billion in the same period of 2020- an increase of 38 percent.
Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea said that this growth is due to the increase of agreements with 23 European countries.
The most important of these agreements are Italy by 51.6 percent, Spain by 77.5 percent, Germany by 22 percent, and the Netherlands by 30.7 percent.
Gamea explained that this increase in Egyptian exports to the European Union comes as a result of the efforts of the ministry and its affiliated agencies.
These include the Egyptian commercial offices in these countries, which aim to develop Egyptian exports to foreign markets.
The ministry remains eager to enhance trade cooperation with the European Union, she said, as close economic relations and trading partner agreements are always a priority.
For his part, the head of Egyptian Commercial Service, Ahmed Maghawry, explained that the most important items in the increase of exports during were plastics and its products, with a value of 494.7 million euros, compared to 329 million euros, an increase of about 50 percent.
Fertilizers amounted to 378 million euros, compared to 284.4 million euros, an increase of 33 percent, iron and steel amounted to 526.5 million euros, compared to 99.1 million euros, an increase of 431 percent, and iron and steel manufactured materials amounted to 26.5 million euros, compared to 13.4 million euros, an increase of 98 percent.
Aluminum with a value of 266.7 million euros, compared to 207.9 million euros, an increase of 28 percent, and organic chemicals with a value of 120.9 million euros, compared to 96.1 million euros, an increase of 26 percent.
Maghawry pointed out that the most important export sectors that witnessed an increase to European also included fruits, electrical equipment and machinery, clothing and accessories of non-knitted or crocheted clothing, glass and its products, cotton, vegetable and fruit preparations, ceramics and its products.
