Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport, Kamel al-Wazir, announced that the country’s first high-speed train will be displayed publicly following its arrival following its inaugural test run on November 9.
The Minister clarified that this initial unit is the luxury model of the high-speed fleet scheduled to enter service in Egypt.
Wazir made the comments on Thursday during the Middle East and Africa Industry and Transport Conference, held under the theme, “Together for Sustainable Development.”
The test run is slated to commence at the main maintenance workshop in Hadayek October and will conclude at the October Station.
Egypt’s first high-speed electric train line is slated to extend from Ain Sokhna to Matrouh, passing through the new administrative capital, Cairo, Sixth of October City, Borg El Arab, and El Alamein.
This network is of great importance for the transportation of passengers and goods, and will contribute to reducing carbon emissions.
The high-speed electric train will be able to reach Cairo from Qena in 150 minutes, Aswan from Qena in 40 minutes, and Hurghada from Qena in 30 minutes.
Similarly in 2023, Egypt received its first train of its kind to operate on the high-speed electricity network’s first line, stretching 675 kilometers from Ain Sokhna to Matrouh, the Youm7 website reported at the time.
The General Supervisor of the Express Electric Train Network Project Ahmed Farouk confirmed at the time that the speed of the express train is 250 km/hour, the operational speed is 230 km/hour, and the average distance between stations is 50 km.
He added that it boasts a capacity of one million to 2.5 million passengers per day.
