Egypt’s grain imports from Russia have amounted to about US$334.3 million in November 2022, compared to about $194.4 million in November 2021.
This is an increase of about $139.9 million, data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) in Egypt, showed.
Egypt’s imports of Russian grain topped the list of Egypt’s imports from Russia during November 2022, it added.
Egypt’s total imports from Russia amount to about $428.5 million in November 2022, compared to about $391.6 million in the same month in 2021, a slight increase of about $36.5 million.
Total Egyptian imports of wheat increased recently for the first time since the Russian-Ukrainian war, as the total value of wheat imports amounted to about $444.5 million in August 2022, compared to $248.3 million in August 2021, an increase of about $196.2 million.
The agency’s data showed that Egyptian imports of wheat declined in July 2022, compared to July of 2021, as the value of Egyptian imports of wheat recorded about $56.2 million in July 2022, compared to about $88.4 million in the same month in 2021, a decline of about $32.2 million.
The agency’s statement was issued after the Russian embassy in Cairo said that the US and European countries failed to disrupt Egypt’s supply of Russian wheat, explaining that supplies could reach eight million tons in the agricultural year 2022-2023.
“The West will not achieve its goals. For example, the Americans and Europeans failed to disrupt Egypt’s supply of Russian wheat. Despite all the obstacles created by the West, on the contrary, these supplies have grown and can reach eight million tons in the agricultural year 2022-2023,” the Russian embassy in Cairo, said.
