Egypt’s U20 National Handball Team qualified for the IHF Men’s U21 World Championship quarterfinals held from July 16 to 28, 2019 in Spain following a tight 30-29 win over Serbia in the 16th round.

Egypt scored the winning goal a few seconds before the final whistle after the Serbian team managed to bring the score to a 29-29 tie in the last minute of the match.

The Egyptian team closed the first half of the match with 15-14 on the board.

Egypt was the first rank for Group B after beating Australia, Nigeria, Sweden, South Korea, and France, while Serbia ranked fourth in Group A with two victories against Japan and United States of America, respectively.

Egypt is the first non-European team to achieve first rank since 2009, when Brazil managed to do so.

Egypt also came in second behind France on the list for teams with the greatest numbers of goals scored after scoring 188 goals in the first round.

Egypt will face Norway in the quarter-final, following Norway’s defeat of Brazil 29-28 in the sixteenth round.
