The Ministry of Health and Population warned, in a statement, against the use of antibiotics and cold mixture shots that citizens resort to in pharmacies without a specialized doctor, as it can have fatal consequences.
It said that there is no scientific research that indicates a link between coronavirus vaccine and the emergence of the respiratory syncytial virus.
The ministry’s statement stressed the importance of families’ awareness in dealing with viral diseases, especially for the groups most vulnerable to infection, and maintaining precautionary measures.
It also pointed out that the respiratory syncytial virus normally causes a mild illness similar to a cold, but may cause severe complications in children, such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia.
“One to two children out of every 100 children under the age of six months, infected with RSV, may need to be admitted to hospitals because they need oxygen and pulmonary fluids, but their conditions improve and they are discharged within days,” the ministry said.
It explained that the symptoms are fever, runny nose, diarrhea, vomiting and sore throat, and the child needs to visit a specialist doctor when symptoms appear to receive care and treatment.
The ministry continued, “If you notice difficulty breathing or blue skin on children, you should go to the hospital immediately.”
The ministry stressed the need to avoid kissing children, and to wash hands frequently as preventive measures that reduce the chance of a child being infected with the respiratory syncytial virus.
