Egypt’s imports from its top five importing countries recorded a decline to about US$2.4 billion in early 2021, compared to US$2.6 billion in early 2020, a report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in Egypt said.
China ranked first, with imports of US$887.3 million during January 2021 compared to US$1.08 billion during the same month in 2020, showing a decrease of 18.1 percent.
The US ranked second with imports amounting to US$509.7 million during January 2021, compared to US$431.3 million during January 2020, an increase of US$78.3 million, or 18.2 percent.
Imports from Saudi Arabia recorded US$399.1 million in January 2021, compared to US$471.8 million the previous year.
Imports from Russia increased to US$324.2 million during January 2021 compared to US$280.1 million in January 2020.
The top imports from Russia included US$202.2 million in grains, as well as locomotives, vehicles and signal equipment at US$34.3 million.
Imports from Germany recorded US$309.4 million in January 2021 compared to US$356.2 million in January 2020.
Egypt’s total exports to world countries reached US$27.5 billion during 2020 compared to $US30.5 billion in 2019, a decrease of US$2.9 billion, while imports decreased from US$76.3 billion to US$69.6 billion during the same period.
