Egypt’s Medical Syndicate on Tuesday refused a suggestion from the Chief of the Military Medical Academy Ahmed al-Tawdy to give pharmacists a license to practice medicine after undergoing the eligible studies, stating that this would harm Egypt’s global medical reputation.
It said that physicians, pharmacists and veterinarians perform their duties based on specific education that differs from each other.
The syndicate explained that after graduating from high school, students must then join a medicine faculty and train in a public hospital as mandatory requirements before they can obtain a license to practice the profession.
Therefore, complementary studies will not be enough to qualify a pharmacist to become a doctor.
