Egypt achieves wheat self-sufficiency until June 2025

Informed sources told Reuters that the Egyptian Ministry of Defense’s Future of Egypt agency for sustainable development has successfully secured the country’s wheat needs until the end of June 2025.

Reuters reported on Sunday that most of the contracted wheat shipments are of Russian origins, with a total contract size of about 1.267 million tons.

Reuters called the move ‘strategic’, as it will eliminate the need to buy more wheat in the coming period, especially since the local wheat harvest season in Egypt is scheduled to begin in the second half of the upcoming year.

Reuters reported at the end of November that the Egyptian army’s Future of Egypt agency has taken on the task of securing the country’s needs for strategic commodities from abroad.

These including wheat, and aims to replace the General Authority for Supply Commodities affiliated with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, as the agency is responsible for international purchase tenders and direct purchases.
