Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population stated that the ministry provided 20 million tablets of Praziquantel to treat 6.9 million patients infected with Bilharzia across 20 governorates as part of the ministry’s plan to eliminate the disease by 2022 in cooperation with the World Health Organization.
The ministry clarified that it will administer and keep track of treatment on patients and school students in healthcare units in Kafr al-Sheikh, Daqahlia, Qalyubiya, Sharqiya, Beheira, Alexandria, Monufiya, Gharbiya, Damietta, Ismailia, North Sinai, Giza, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor and Aswan.
The ministry pointed out that it launched the plan on July 1 and that this segment will continue until August 8 for the treatment of 2,338,492 patients throughout Kafr al-Sheikh, Daqahlia, and Qalyubiya governorates, adding that the second stage would start September 1 and end October 5 to treat 2,135,822 patients in Sharqiya and Beheira governorates.
The third stage will start October 2 and end November 12 to treat 2,416,367 patients in Alexandria, Monufiya, Gharbiya, Damietta, Ismailia, North Sinai, Giza, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor and Aswan.
