Egypt’s permanent mission to the UN has organized a ceremony to mark the 72nd anniversary of the July 23 Revolution.
Addressing the celebration, Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Osama Abdel Khaleq said that the July 23 Revolution represents a new chapter in Egypt’s history towards fulfilling people’s aspirations of enjoying freedom, dignity and social justice.
Abdel Khaleq added that the revolution has contributed to sparking independence and liberation movements across several countries and regions.
The ambassador highlighted Egypt’s key role as a founding member of the UN and its adherence to the principals of the UN, its goals and charter, which Egypt was present while inking it, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates on Tuesday.
He shed light on Egypt’s major contributions to the international peace keeping efforts and becoming one of leading countries as regards its share in the international peacekeeping forces.
Abdel Khaleq called on the international community to utilize the anticipate Summit of the Future Action Days, due to take place on September 20-21 at UN Headquarters in New York, to achieve a tangible progress in reforming the UN and enhance its ability of responding to international challenges as well as supporting developing countries to attain sustainable development by the year 2030.
The event was attended by a galaxy of UN senior officials and permanent representatives of UN Member States.
