The Interior Ministry announced on Friday that members of the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist group attempted to plant explosives at a security point near al-Istiqama mosque in Giza Square after the Friday Zohor prayer.
Eyewitnesses said that the police force stationed in the square imposed a security cordon and closed the streets leading to it as an improvised explosive device (IED) was defused and another exploded, injuring a policeman and two citizens with minor injuries and smashing the glass of passing cars.
Many citizens gathered behind the security cordon and on the top of the Giza Bridge in the square to watch the dismantling process.
Members of the Prosecutor General’s office in Giza moved to the scene for further inspection of the site, and ordered preliminary investigations into the incident.
Following the incident, Giza governorate witnessed a security alert in all its squares. The security services uncovered another IED planted in Nahda Square, which was recently opened two days ago.
