Egypt’s Sisi opens 12th extraordinary summit of African Union in Niger

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday opened up the 12th Extraordinary Summit, which will discuss the implementation of the historic African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) on July 7-8 in Niamey, Niger featuring the participation of presidents and prime ministers from 55 African countries.

Sisi stressed that the Convention of AFCFTA marks an important achievement for Africa, and called on the African Union’s member states to complete the signature and ratification of the Convention.

The President added that the African countries realized that there was still a long way to implement the 2063 agenda carrying bright future for Africa. He said that the African governments must work together with the private sector to implement the Convention, and called for huge efforts to carry out economic integration between the African countries.

Sisi asked the African countries to enhance investment opportunities and develop infrastructure for achieving development.
