The Egyptian Company for Metro Management and Operation began operating on Sunday the eighth air-conditioned train on the first line of Marg-Helwan, according to Ahmed Abdel Hady, the company’s spokesperson.
In remarks, Abdel Hady said that the new train started from Torah al-Balad station heading in the direction of Marg. It joined the operation schedule of the first line after being tested.
The operation of air-conditioned trains aims to replace older trains on the first line in order to render better services for commuters and reduce congestion. The moved comes following the import of 20 air-conditioned trains, 11 of which are from the Korean Hyundai Rotem and nine from the Egyptian Semaf Railway factory at a cost LE 2.2 billion.
